Wilkesboro United Methodist Women (UMW)

               

 The PURPOSE of United Methodist Women

The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

Meeting Date/Time/Place:

 

We meet on the first Tuesday of each month (except August & December) at 6:30 p.m. in the Belayers Sunday School classroom (unless otherwise announced).  The United Methodist Men prepare a meal at 6:00 p.m. which we are invited to join; cost is $5.00/person.

 

History/Information:

 

Wilkesboro United Methodist Women (UMW), previously known as the Wesleyan Service Guild and the Women’s Society of Christian Service, has been active in the church and the UMW North Wilkesboro District of the Western North Carolina Conference UMW since 1956.  The UMW program reflects the historical thrust of mission through spiritual growth; mission education; Christian social involvement; and support for women, children and youth.  Our unit currently has 25 members.  We financially and prayerfully support various district and global UMW mission areas (e.g., Bethlehem Center in Winston Salem and Bread for the World), an adopted missionary, and various local mission efforts.

 

Upcoming Conference/District/Local Events:

 

·         Spiritual Growth Retreat; June 17 – 18; Lake Junaluska; Theme: Peace. Popcorn, and Pansies.

 

Current Projects:

 

·         Cookbook (Pleasures from the Good Earth); anticipated completion olate July, 2011; 500 recipes with cooking tips/$15.00 per book.

 

 

 

Missions Supported:

 

Local Missions

 CAPT, Our House, SAFE, Make a Difference Day, Volunteers for Wilkes Literacy, Circles of Care and others as need arises

 

District/Global Missions

Bethlehem Center, Bread for the World, Prayer and Self-Denial Love Offering, World Thank Love Offering,

Broughton Hospital (sponsor 4 children for Christmas), our mission pledge (financial support) to NW District UMW
